Recommended Supplements

Myoplex Protein Powder by EAS – My favorite flavor is Strawberry Cream. I mix this with skim milk, a banana or two, five or six frozen strawberries and about a teaspoon of wheat germ in the blender twice a day. I also mix a dose of creatine and glutamine (see below) with my shakes. I actually have a blender at work. Many of my co-workers have smoke breaks. I am known by many at work for my shake breaks. I bring a koozi bag to work of not only my shake packets, but all of the supplements that I take throughout the day.

Nitrovarin-PLS Nighttime Protein Complex by NutraSport – This is designed to maximize muscle growth while you sleep. I use this only when I have had an intense day of training. I take it with 8 oz. of milk 30 minutes before bedtime. Fortunately the price on this has dropped!

Creatine Lean Mass Volumizer – I take one heaping spoon full (5g) of this three times a day.  I recommend cycling this three months on, three months off. There is a loading phase of three days when you take four servings a day. You can try taking more. You know to back off if you have diarrhea. It is very important to drink extra water when you are using creatine. I recommend using a basic, no frills, powder. The supplement market of creatine is out of control. Each company claims to have the secret edge to make creatine more efficiently absorbed in the body. I bought into it for a while and lost my faith in creatine for a whole year. I recently re-discovered its power in the simplest form. I use the Body Tech  brand.

Glutamine – I take one heaping spoon full once, sometimes twice a day, usually with my shakes, and it is best taken after your workouts and before going to bed. Glutamine is the most treasured of amino acids by bodybuilders.  

Fish Oil pills and Flax Oil provide Omega fats that help rid your body of bad fats. Omega fats lower cholesterol levels along with many other benefits. I take two pills of each (fish and flax) three times a day after a meal. I am currently taking a generic brand from Sam’s Club. I may someday consider switching back to
Omega Stak which is a synthetic version that does the same thing basic fish oil does only it supposedly works more efficiently using a combination of omega fatty acids.

Anabolic-Matrix Rx
Boost And Maximize Your Own Natural Testosterone Levels! For maximizing lean mass gains, an adult man should use a testosterone booster. Anabolic-Matrix Rx is a great alternative to steroids and prohormones. It's legal and safe!  There's been a noticable differnence in the short time I've used this.

Ripped Fuel by Twinlab – Some people use this as a fat burner. There are better fat burners than this, which I will get into next. I have been using Ripped Fuel for years only just before workouts as an energy booster. I take two capsules about 30-60 minutes before a workout. This should not be taken late in the day if you want to sleep well. Give Ripped Fuel a break when you are cycled on fat burners. The fat burners have some of the same ingredients that could raise your heart to a dangerous level if taken on the same day you have taken Ripped Fuel. For an added boost of energy I have tried taking Extreme Ripped Fuel, but have not noticed any difference.

Diet Fuel fat burner by Twinlab – I have tried several fat burners. The challenge with “cutting up” with diet, exercise and fat burners is to do it without losing too much of your muscle gains. While using Diet Fuel, I not only maintained while shredding up, I actually gained five pounds of lean muscle mass on my most recent cutting cycle. Of course I watched my diet carefully. While not cutting the calories, I cut the fat and ate healthy carbs like fruits, and I avoided the unhealthy carbs like cakes and cookies.

Metamucil
fiber laxative made from 100% natural Psyllium Husk. Need something to help suck that gut in? Metamucil can help with that! I recommend the orange flavored power, although it now comes in a capsule form if you prefer. I use this during cutting cycles and occasionally during my gaining cycles for colon health, and tighten my abs. I take it about 30 minutes before bed time, and first thing in the morning, 30 minutes before breakfast. Avoid taking any supplements or medication within an hour or two before and after taking Metamucil.

Greens Plus for colon health among other things - I take three teaspoonfuls of this in the morning. This is a green power that must be kept in the refrigerator after opening. The testimonials have a wide range of claims.

Note on Soy Protein: A website visitor brought up his concern that I was recommending a soy protein (Vege Fuel). My initial thought that he was being ridiculous. Upon further research I have learned that soy should be avoided. For further information check out these articles:
